FINE Condition

Binding Details:  Fine contemporary binding of three-quarter morocco leather over marbled boards with elaborate decorations and titling to the spine which has raised spine hubs. The top edges are gold gilted. The original decorative panel from the original front cover is bound in at the end of the book. On the inside of the back cover is the binding ticket of John Fellowes. The book is housed in a custom made paper covered slipcase.

Book Details:  This is a first edition of the critically acclaimed “Down-Adown-Derry: A Book of Fairy Poems” that was preceded by a deluxe limited edition in the same year. The book features 3 full page color and 60 black-and-white illustrations by Dorothy P. Lathrop who in 1939 was the very first Caldecott Medal for illustration. Her illustrations are a perfect complement to the wonderful poems of Walter de la Mare who is widely considered one of the preeminent authors of children’s books in the twentieth century.

The book measures 10.625” x 7.25”, 193 pages with a list of poems and illustrations.

Condition Report:  The binding is in FINE condition. Internally the book is clean with no foxing, marks, or signs of previous ownership. The slipcase is in FINE- condition with some minor soiling.
