Book Details:  This is the first signed American limited edition of “A King’s Story: The Memoirs of the Duke of Windsor” published by Putnam, New York with a limitation of 385 copies of which 350 were available for sale with this being number 39 as stated on the signature/limitation page. The only autobiography ever written by a British Monarch, this is the memoir of the former King Edward VIII, beginning with his childhood and ending with his abdication and subsequent departure from England in December 1936.

In their review of the book, Kirkus wrote, “One's first feeling on closing this book is profound sympathy for a man whose capacities, personality and emotional development had been hemmed in by the strictures of the role for which he was destined. The melodramatic ending of his brief reign was ""tried"" by the public press; here he takes the chance to tell his side of the story. To tell it he feels impelled to put on record the story of a Prince who became a King, who fell in love with a woman who was not accepted by his arbiters, and who gave up the throne he felt he could not fill without her … required reading for anyone interested in the most romantic love story of our time.” (Kirkus UK)

Measuring approximately 9.25” x 6” with 435 pages, the book contains a table of contents, a frontispiece, and 22 pages of gravure illustrations.
