Miyako Ishiuchi (Photographs 1976 – 2005)

Signed Limited Edition, 2008, 68 of 100

Signed and Numbered by Miyako Ishiuchi

FINE Condition

This is signed, limited edition of “MiyakoIshiuchi (Photographs 1976 – 2005)” published by Manfred Heiting/Cinubia Production in 2008 with a limitation of 100 hand signed and numbered copies this being number 68.   Miyako Ishiuchi is widely regarded as one of the great Japanese photographers of the past half century and is the only women whose work was featured in Ryuichi Kaneko and Ivan Vartanian’s reference work on Japanese Photobooks, “Japanese Photobooks of the 1960s and 70s”. This book is a stunning book-object perfectly suited to Ishiuchi’s work.A gorgeous production designed by Machiel Botman and published by Manfred Heiting, the book is bound in the unusual Leporello style, with two-page triton spreads printed recto and verso. On one side are images from her early work in the seventies, about Yokosuka (Yokosuka story, Apartment and Endless Night). On the other side are images from her later work (1.9.4.7; 1906 to the Skin and Mother's). In each section, the covers of the original books are reproduced as well. As Sandra S. Phillips wrote in “The Art of Miyako Ishiuchi”, "There is a quality of ambiguity in Miyako Ishiuchi's work that is memorable and distinctive. It is an ambiguity that comes from her particular sensibility to render objects as concrete and real while simultaneously representing them as essentially intangible and fragile....".

Measuring approximately 10.75” x 8”, the book is bound in printed stiff boards (issued without a dust jacket) and housed in a maroon slipcase with OBI. The slipcase and book are in FINE condition with the book boards evidencing very minimal surface wear caused by the rubbing of the book while in the slipcase.

The book has been signed and numbered (68 of 100) by Miyako Ishiuchi on the title page. This is a very scarce title (this is the only one currently available) that highlights the incredible work on one of the most critically acclaimed photographers of the past 50 years.

Photographs of the book, slipcase, signature page, as well as stock images contained in the book appear in the photo section of the listing.
