Binding Details:  Beautifully bound in a signed full blue morocco leather binding by Bayntun-Riviere with five raised bands to the spine, boards ruled in gilt with floral gilt decorations, spine lettering and decorative band tooling in gilt, elaborate spine panel decorations in gilt, gilt turn-ins and edges, marbled endpapers, gilt dentilles, and gold gilted top page edges. The book is housed in a functional fleece lined blue cloth open ended slipcase.

The Bayntun-Riviere binder’s stamp appears on the top of the first free endpaper.

Book Details:  This is the deluxe signed limited edition of the critically acclaimed “Some British Ballads" beautifully illustrated by Arthur Rackham that was published by Constable & Co. Ltd. in 1919 with a limitation of 575 copies with this being number 143.

“Some British Ballads” contains 44 ballads many of which were based on the great work of Francis James Child and features 16 beautiful color plates by Arthur Rackham mounted onto heavy stock paper and protected by tissue guards with printed captions. The book is further illustrated with 24 black-and-white line drawings by Arthur Rackham.

The book measures approximately 11.25” x 9” and contains 170 pages as well as a table of contents and list of illustrations.

Arthur Rackham’s signature appears on the limitation page.

Condition Report:  The binding is in FINE condition. Internally, the book is very clean with the name of the previous owner appearing in ink on the first free endpaper and some offsetting to the edges of the endpapers and pastedowns. Overall, this is a beautiful signed binding by Bayntun-Riviere that houses the signed limited edition of one of Arthur Rackham’s most important works.
