The Great Gatsby, Art by Michael Graves, Arion Press, Limited to 50

This is a special limited edition of “The Great Gatsby” published by the Arion Press in 1984 limited to 50 copies out of a total edition limited to 400 copies. From the publisher, “Michael Graves, the well-known architect of Princeton, was invited by the publisher to draw the buildings and grounds, the furniture, fixtures, landscaping, automobiles, telephones, and cocktail glasses of East and West Egg and New York, and the gas station and pool where the characters met their ends, but not Jay, Tom, Daisy, or the narrator, who are left to the reader’s imagination.”

Measuring 10” x 6.5” and containing 182 numbered pages, the book was bound by the Schuberth Bookbindery in blue-green cloth spine and corners over printed grey paper boards with a printed paper label on the spine. The text is composed in Monotype Goudy Light with Piehler capitals and figures for display. The paper is French mouldmade Rives buff. Photo-engravings printed in terra-cotta, titling and chapter numbers in blue-green. The book is signed by Michael Graves on the limitation page. A copy of the original prospectus as well as addition ephemera will accompany the book.

For the deluxe edition, the book is housed in a green cloth clamshell box with the lid recessed for a terra cotta bas relief designed by Michael Graves of a three-dimensional site plan of the Gatsby estate. Also included with the deluxe edition are a limitation sheet, the book, and two matted original drawings for the book (pages 12 and 74) that are signed and dated by Michael Graves.

The book, clamshell box, and matted signed drawings are in FINE condition with no flaws.
